Can coffee cause heartburn?

Foods and drinks with caffeine, like coffee, may trigger heartburn. However, the science isn’t clear. Some say heartburn symptoms from coffee may be a result of other components of coffee other than caffeine.

Healthy individuals need not worry that their daily cup of coffee or caffeinated beverage is harming their health.

If you are worried about heartburn or effects of caffeine on the body, please see your doctor.

Is caffeine bad for you?

Caffeine is known to be safe when consumed in moderation. Every day, millions of people enjoy food and beverages with caffeine, including coffee, tea and soft drinks. Because caffeine has been consumed for centuries, we know a lot about it. It is widely studied, and how much we use in our drinks is known to be safe.

How much caffeine is too much?

The U.S. FDA says healthy adults can have up to 400mg of caffeine a day without having adverse health effects. That would be like having eight 12-oz cans of Diet Coke or four to five cups* of coffee in one day! Limits may be less for children and pregnant women.

1* cup = 8oz

Why do you use caffeine in Coca-Cola?
